The authors propose a multimode w'aveguide photodiode utilising asymmetric waveguide structure which is suitable for optical hybrid integration without coupling lenses, and has a high responsivity of 0.95A/W at a wavelength of 1.31μm. Its 1dB coupling tolerance to a planar lightwave circuit is ±2μm in the vertical direction.
