Magnetic field effects on an organic S = 1/2 alternating linear Heisenberg antiferromagnet F5PNN

Specific heat measurements under magnetic fields up to 3 T have been performed on an S = 1/2 alternating linear Heisenberg organic antiferromagnet pentafluorophenyl nitronyl nitroxide (F5PNN). The energy gap at zero-field is estimated to be Δ/kB = 4.0 K from the zero-field specific heat at low temperatures. When the magnetic field is 3 T, linear-temperature dependence of specific heat is observed at low temperatures, which indicates that the energy gap is suppressed by the magnetic field.
