Measurement of hysteresis loop at the tip of the teeth of an inverter-driven squirrel-cage induction motor

Induction motors are driven using pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverters because of the ease of control and energy saving that may be realized. When the iron loss of an induction motor is calculated using the finite element method (FEM), there are differences between experimental and simulation results obtained under PWM inverter excitation. To improve the accuracy using FEM, it is important to understand the behavior of the magnetic flux in the motor driven by the PWM inverter during the experiment. To the best of our knowledge, there are few reports regarding the magnetic flux in an induction motor [1]. In this study, we measure the magnetic flux and hysteresis loop in a squirrel-cage induction motor using search coils located on the tip of the teeth.
