Mechanical properties of cohesive soils mixed with carbide possessing water absorption property

This study investigated the mechanical properties of cohesive soils mixed with carbide possessing water absorption property. The ability of charcoal to adsorb hexavalent chromium was also confirmed. The amount of Cr(IV) released from the cement-treated soil can be reduced by mixing charcoal. It was observed that the unconfimed compressive strength of cement-treated soil increases by mixing charcoal or carbides prepared from waste materials. An improvement in the strength of cement-treated soil and the trafficability of volcanic cohesive soil by mixing water absorptive materials can be estimated from the reducing ratio of water content.
