Ni-Fe/La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg 0.2O3 (LSGM) (90:10) cermet anode for direct CH 4 SOFC was studied. Among the various cermets studied, it was found that Ni-Fe/LSGM exhibits the superior catalytic activity for CH4 oxidation and also stability in CH4, and so the carbon deposition was highly suppressed. This improvement could be explained by an increase in basic property of LSGM. The further kinetic study was performed and this cermet anode shows almost zero PCH4 dependence of anodic overpotential. Therefore, the rate-determining step of CH4 electrochemical oxidation on this cermet seems to be the charge transfer process due to a high surface activity of NiFe-LSGM catalyst.
