On a Precise Control for MP Joint of Human Index Finger Using Functional Electrical Stimulation - Basic Characteristics of the Joint Movement - Basic C

For a precise position control of human fingers, functional electrical stimulation (FES) based human finger joint control is studied considering applications of improving dexterous manipulation of human hand. After some explanations of experimental conditions of the FES based control for a human finger (MP joint of index finger), some basic characteristics on the motion of human finger by the FES including maximum joint angle, response speed and time delay of the response after stopping the stimulation signal for various stimulation level are shown. The response when simultaneous stimulation for flexion and extension muscles is also shown. Using the basic characteristics of the MP joint response, a precise control method for the joint is suggested using two different FES signals with two non-erodible pad electrodes for different parts of muscles.
