Oxygen reduction property of ultrafine LaMnO3 dispersed on carbon support

Reverse homogeneous precipitation using a chelating compound was applied to obtain ultrafine small particles of perovskite-type oxides dispersed on a carbon support. The mixed hydroxides with 7.3 nm mean particle size were supported on carbon powders, and the resulting carbon-supported precursors were converted to fine oxides by calcining in a N2 atmosphere. The optimal loadings of the particles on carbon under oxygen reduction conditions were tested, and it was found that the electrodes prepared by reverse homogeneous precipitation using the chelating compound showed surprisingly high performances for the small amounts of loading that were used.
