Photocatalytic water splitting into H2 and O2 and charge separation mechanism on dye modified KTa(Zr)O3

    In actual photosynthesis, Z scheme excitation is performed to separate electronic charge with high efficiency by using solar light. In this study, water splitting into H2 and O2 on dye modified KTa(Zr)O3 was investigated and it was found that H2 and O2 formation rate is much improved by dye modification. Charge separation mechanism was further studied with transient spectroscopy and this study reveals that photo excitation in Cr-tetraphenyl porphyrin (Cr-TPP)/KTa(Zr)O3 is analogous with Z scheme in photosynthesis and complete charge separation was achieved at room temperature.
