Purpose: To discuss the refractive error after simultaneous surgery on vitreous and cataract. Cases and Method: This study was made on consecutive series of 20 eyes that received simultaneous surgery on vitreous and cataract during a three month period. The age averaged 66 years. Results: Postoperative refraction was smaller than the predicted value by 0.37±0.59D. Power of intraocular lens (IOL) was increased by 0.25D from the predicted value in another series of 28 eyes. Postoperative error of refraction within ±0.5D was 35% in the initial series and 67.9% in the second. Conclusion: Refractive error after simultaneous surgery on vitreous and cataract may differ dependent on instrumentation, type of IOL, and underlying disease. Formula for choice of IOL power will have to be decided for each institution.
