Preparation of polymer-coated ultrafine ferrite particles having carboxyl group for application to immunoassay magnetic marker were studied Preparation of the polymer/Fe 3O 4 particles by radical copolymerization of a crosslinker and a vinyl monomer with carboxyl group resulted in high dispersibility in aqueous solution and the amount of carboxyl group of 105 μmol/g. Proteins and antibodies, were efficiently bound to polymer/Fe 3O 4 particles using a condensation reagent, WSC. The antigen-antibody reaction using Human IgE-immobilized Fe 3O 4 by a SQUID sensor monitored minimum amount of 0.1 pg antigen. The reaction using streptavidin-immobilized Fe 3O 4 was also effective for determination of antigen via the reaction of the marker with biotin-laveled antibody.
