Continuous high-pressure torsion (HPT) method was applied to pure Al (99.99%) and an AI-3%Mg-0.2%Sc alloy. It is shown that continuous HPT (CHPT) can be used for severe plastic deformation and thus for production of ultrafine grained microstructure as the conventional HPT. Furthermore, CHPT provides a means to process sheet and wire of the materials in a continuous way so that it can be promising for industrial applications. It is confirmed that an Al-3%Mg-0.2%Sc alloy exhibits superplastic elongation of ∼500% at 573K after processing by the CHPT.
