Quantitative measurements on the morphology of a NH4Br dendritic crystal growth in a capillary

Dendritic crystal growth of NH4Br in a narrow capillary for various solutions of different supercooling was observed by a microscope. The spacing of sidebranches was measured quantitatively as a function of the supercooling temperature. The tip radius of curvature and the growth velocity of the dendrite were also measured for various supercoolings. The results were compared with the theory of Langer and Müller-Krumbhaar, which is an extension of the theory on morphological instability by Mullins and Sekerka.
