Objective: To investigate the expression and significance of prostate specific antigen (PSA) and androgen receptor(AR) in extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD). Methods: Thirty tissue specimens of EMPD cases were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections for PSA and AR. Results: The positive expression of PSA and AR among the 30 specimens of EMPD was 13 and 14 respectively. Moreover, the expression of PSA and AR in specimens from the male cases was higher than that from the female cases (P<0.01). There was significant correlation between PSA and AR expression in EMPD. Conclusions: This study provides evidence that the overexpression of PSA and AR is existed in EMPD of the male cases, indicating that PSA/AR signaling pathway may play a pivotal role in the oncogenesis of EMPD of the male.
