An existing school building constructed in 1963 was tested statically under horizontal force. The test specimen was three-story RC building retrofitted by concrete-filled steel tubular (CFT) braces which were only acting under compression. The effect this retrofitting method on the existing building was investigated from viewpoints of strength, stiffness and deformation capacity. The yield and maximum strengths were also investigated and compared the calculations based on the "Standards for Seismic Capacity Evaluation of Existing Reinforce Concrete Buildings" (JBDPA 1977). The retrofitting design of the method was clarified by comparisons between test and calculations.
