Structural analysis of semidilute solution of cellulose in LiCl-DMAc using light scattering and rheological measurements

Semidilute solution of Cellulose in 8 wt % LiCl/N,N-dimethylacetamide was investigated using static light scattering (SLS) and rheological measurements. The reduced osmotic modulus estimated by SLS measurement for native cellulose solutions is proportional to c1.16 in semidilute region. From the exponent of 1.16, the scaling theory gives the relationship between R g, and Mw, of native cellulose as Rg ∝ M0.62, which leads to the Mark-Houwink-Sakurada exponent of 0.86. This is very close to the exponent of 0.85 estimated form the rheological measurements for plant cellulose solutions.
