Creation of new biomedical materials with controlled sugar array having intervals on a nanoscale by organization is focused on our studies. We have already reported synthesis of amphiphilic aliphatic polyether dendrimers having a sugar residue at the core, and the two-dimensional assembly of the dendrimers was shown to be able to control the intersugar distance at nano-level. In this report, we prepared three-dimensional assembly of amphiphilic polyether dendrimers having a lactose or galactose residue at the core in water, and determined the particle size by dynamic light scattering. Relatively small particles (size; 70 nm) were detected in the case of the decyl-terminated dendrimer with a lactose residue at the core. Particle size maxima of other dendrimers having terminal adamantyl groups were 170-330 nm with relatively narrow size distributions.
