N2 - Heavy fuel with a C/H ratio of 7. 7 and a viscosity of 192 cSt at 50 degree C was burned in a small-sized high speed diesel engine with a bore of 110 mm, a stroke of 125 mm and maximum speed of 2500 rpm. Through an improved fuel injection system and a decrease in cooling loss, the combustion and thermal loading approximating that of marine diesel oil was attained. Evaluation of combustion was carried out through the Multi-Evaluation System on the seven aspects; 1) fuel characteristics, 2) combustion mode, 3) engine vibration, 4) noise, 5) engine performance, 6) thermal loading and 7) heat balance. These factors were analyzed independently, evaluated correlatively and a synthetic judgement on combustion was performed.
