Synthesis and self-assembly of C3-symmetric basic peptide conjugates

Viruses are natural supramolecular nanocapsules self-assembled from the constituent proteins. For example, a kind of spherical virus, tomato bushy stunt virus, is formed from C3-symmetric β-sheet proteins. We previously reported synthesis of a C3-symmetric peptide conjugate which bear three CFKFEFKFE peptide chains. These peptide chains have potential to form anti-parallel β-sheets, and the conjugate formed spherical nanostructures in acidic water. In this study, we describe synthesis and aggregate characteristics of an improved C3-symmetric peptide conjugate which bear three CFKFKFKFK peptide. The cationic 3-way peptide conjugate was successively dissolved in neutral water and formation of spherical aggregates was observed by AFM.
