N2 - The incidence of a disease is an important parameter for epidemiological research. For example, the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis is estimated to be 23.7 cases per 100,000 person-years [1], while that of osteoarthritis in the hip joint to be 47.3–88 cases per 100,000 person-years in the United States [2, 3]. These data have been adopted to elucidate the burden, risks, and trends of the disease in a general population [1, 4].
