Thirty-four patients were treated with external radiotherapy for locally recurrent rectal cancer during the period from 1998 to 2004. The radiation dose ranged from 50 to 64Gy (median, 60Gy). Twenty-eight patients were combined with concurrent chemotherapy. Complete or partial response was achieved in 19 patients. Five-year overall survival rate was 15%. Univariate analysis revealed that tumor size (<4cm) were the only prognostic factor for local control.
