A few papers describing vibrations of the viscoelastic Timoshenko beams have been published. It is assumed in these studies that the damping factor associated with the dynamic Young's modulus is identical to that associated with the shear modulus. This assumption is well justified in the case of isotropic materials and it reduces the complexity of the resulting equation. However, in the analysis of anisotropic materials that have generally much higher shear deflections in comparison with isotropic materials, the damping factors must be introduced separately in the equation. In this paper, the forced vibration of an anisotropic, viscoelastic Timoshenko beam with free ends is discussed both theoretically and experimentally. Experiments were made on free-free-wooden beams. Wood is particularly interesting as an experimental material because it is both anisotropic and viscoelastic.
