In present study we investigate the recognition of patient with Severe Motor and Intellectual Disabilities by analyzing EEG.. Patients with Severe Motor and Intellectual Disabilities (SMID) is a term of a heterogeneous group of disorders with severe physical disabilities and profound mental retardation which is caused by a disturbance of central nervous systems. The caregivers have problems understanding patients' responses and catching their attention because it is difficult to communicate verbally with patients. When they hear their own name, some patients with SMID shows a smiling, eye blinking and so on. It seems to suggest that these patients recognize their own names from their responses. However, there is no scientific evidence to confirm that. To understand whether patients with SMID recognize their own name or not, we investigate their brain activity by measuring and analyzing EEG.. First we measured EEG of normal subjects group while hearing auditory stimuli which included their own name. Then EEG power was calculated by time-frequency analysis method. To compare with these results of normal group, EEG signals from the patients group were measured and analyzed in the same way. In present report, we will discuss about the comparison between normal group and patient group.
