ARENA, established in 2004, has been the academic center for comprehensive research on North Africa through cooperation between humanities/social sciences and natural sciences for the region's sustainable development. ARENA also aims to connect indigenous knowledge and academia through researchers' fieldwork in North African countries because indigenous knowledge is the key element for sustainable development. This paper presents a case study of indigenous knowledge of medicinal and aromatic plants in Tunisia, which was collected through fieldwork related to ARENA's project "Valorization of Bio-resources in Semi-Arid and Arid Land for Regional Development" under the scheme of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) project.
