Application of immobilized biocatalysts is now being expanded to more complicated reactions using living or growing cells, which provide self-proliferating and self-regenerating catalytic systems. In this paper, we report several examples of immobilized living or growing cells prepared by the prepolymer methods. As described below, living or growing cells entrapped with photocrosslinkable resin prepolymers or urethane prepolymers have been found to be useful catalysts for multistep reactions.
